ANTI-PARKING charges campaigners in Leominster are urging local people to make their views known.

Former fishmonger Denise Pugh, the organiser of last year's mammoth petition opposing car park fees, said the new campaign would try a different tack.

She is calling for individual responses to be sent to Herefordshire Council.

Consultation forms can be filled in and left at the new 'Info in Herefordshire' centre at Corn Square. It follows an initiative by Councillor June French to stimulate wider feedback on the controversial issue.

Denise Pugh said: "I am appealing to everyone to fill in a form - this is the next step."

She said another campaigner, Dee Hudson, rightly highlighted in last week's Hereford Times "a lack of proper public consultation."

Mrs Hudson protested to the county council when it became apparent that consultation would be limited to a recent fill-in form in a newspaper supplement. Many people missed it, she said.

County council chiefs are proposing to introduce ticket machines at two Leominster town centre car parks, Etnam Street at the Central Area Car park.

Campaigners say the move is "the thin end of the wedge" towards charging at all four council-owned car parks and the ending of Leominster's coveted 'all free' parking attractions.
