TRAFFIC came to a standstill in the centre of Hereford when a lorry mounted a pavement and overturned on Monday afternoon.

The white 7.5ton lorry, which was carrying vegetable oil for recycling, flipped over on to its side in Blueschool Street at 3pm, blocking the east-bound carriageway.

The driver of the lorry, who was able to walk free of the vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Hereford General Hospital with minor injuries.

He had been driving through the city from the Widemarsh Street direction when the lorry turned on its side, smashing railings outside the Play nightclub.

No other vehicles were involved.

Anyone who saw the lorry, with a Newport

registration, prior to the accident, or who has information, is asked to contact PC Colin Kerfoot at Hereford Police Station on 01432 276422.
