BODENHAM budgie '103' is now more than just a number to his breeders after being voted top bird at the Budgerigar Society World Championship Show.
The pretty eight-month-old yellow, cinnamon and blue budgie, owned by professional breeders Nicki and Paul Stannard, flew to the top of the breeding class in the bird world's equivalent to Crufts at Doncaster Leisure Centre.
The exhibition bird beat 3,500 others to the top perch, collecting £500 prize money.
Paul, who has been breeding birds with his wife since 1993 and keeps 300 similar English breeds, is amazed and delighted their budgie was judged best in the world.
"We just entered the show as part of our hobby and didn't go there to win a major award. The competition is very tough," he said.
