Mahal 1 Hinton 3

HINTON gave a good all-round performance to move into the top half of the West Midlands League Division 1 South table with an away win.

The visitors stuck to a defensive game plan in the first period and tried to hit Mahal on the break. This ploy worked well when both Kevin New and Ross Semple had chances which hit the cross-bar and new signing Chris Gough raced clear, only to stopped by a brave save by the home goalkeeper.

Luke Semple opened the scoring for Hinton after 15 minutes of the second period when he forced the ball home from a goalmouth scramble but, as the visitors sat back, Mahal equalised with a speculative overhead kick.

This spurred Hinton back into action and they went ahead through skipper Darren Birch from 25 yards. Darren Birch put the result beyond doubt when he followed up a Ross Semple drive, which the Mahal goalkeeper could only parry, and prodded the ball home from close range.
