A FAMILY of country cats in the Golden Valley is looking for new homes following the deaths of their owners - an elderly woman and her butler.
The colony of 19 ginger and white feral cats at Turnastone Court were cared for by the late Irene Watkins and her 77-year-old butler Herbert Dale. Miss Watkins died comparatively recently and Mr Dale passed away on November 16.
Described as good mousers by Annie Rayer of Cats Protection, the cats are now looking for new homes in the country.
Outdoor home
"They need an outdoor home on a farm or small holding or at a country house. With just one good meal a day they would be an asset to anyone with rat problems," said Annie, who neutered and spayed all the cats two years ago.
The contented moggies had provided some companionship for Irene and Herbert and were sometimes seen curled up by their fire.
It is unlikely that the cats, all aged under three, would ever make good house pets, but Annie, who keeps feral cats herself, says they would happily settle in twos, at a new home.
Anyone who is interested in providing a home is asked to contact Cats Protection at Hereford on 01432 277543 or Annie Rayer on 01432 271264.
