FORMER Westfields striker Alex Sykes has been appointed as the new Herefordshire FA football development officer.
He takes over from the first ever officer, James Watkins, who resigned after a year to return to college to study for a masters degree.
Sykes won an England under-18 cap while at Hereford Sixth Form College and moved into League football in 1992 when he was transferred from Westfields to Second Division Mansfield Town.
He joined Forest Green Rovers in 1996 and, after helping them gain promotion to the Nationwide Conference, led the attack in the 1999 FA Umbro Trophy final where they lost to Kingstonian.
Sykes, the holder of a BSc degree in sports science, has since joined Nuneaton Borough. He takes up his HFA appointment on December 10.
