THE Britten Singers will be starting rehearsals for their new season on Friday, January 11. This well established chamber choir, now in its 27th year under founder/director Pamela White, will be as usual tackling a challenging programme of music ranging from the 16th century to the present day, both sacred and secular.
Though the choir mostly specialises in unaccompanied music for their one larger scale concert in the spring, they will be performing a Bach motet, 'Lobet den herrn', and pieces by Monteverdi with strings, wind and organ.
Other pieces being rehearsed at the moment include 'Silence and Music' by Ralph Vaughan Williams, originally composed for a collection of music to celebrate the coronation in 1953, as well as a piece by the contemporary compose Paul Patterson, 'Salvum fac populum tuum Domine'.
Pamela White would be pleased to hear from keen and experienced singers who would be interested in joining the group, with tenors and basses being particularly welcome. Information about The Britten Singers may be obtained from Pamela White on 01432 356757.
