THE first New Radnor concert this year takes place in the community centre this Saturday, January 12 at 7.30pm.

It will be given by prestigious musicians from London, the Irby/Newland Ensemble.

The Ensemble, made up of Christopher and Carol Irby and David and Mary Newland, have had many years' experience playing with the greatest orchestras of Great Britain.

Christopher, 'cello, has played with, among others, the London Philharmonic for nine years, principal 'cello with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera and 25 years with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Carol Irby, violin, has held positions with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and for the last ten years as sub-principal first violin with the Orchestra of the English National Opera.

David Newland, viola, was sub-principal viola with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra subsequently playing with two London orchestras, the London Philharmonic and as co-principal with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for many years.

Mary Newland, piano, represented the Royal Northern College at various concerts in the north of England. Since moving to London she has worked mainly as a ballet pianist with the English National Ballet, the Royal Ballet and more recently with the Education Department of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

They will play music by Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. Details 01544 350301.
