HEREFORDSHIRE table tennis player Alistair Dawson failed to qualify for the England junior squad, despite causing a big upset at the national trials in Stratford.
The 16-year-old won three of his seven matches at the English Table Tennis Association-organised tournament, including an impressive victory over number-20 seed Robert Lemon.
Dawson, who is ranked 125th in the English Junior list, picked up 75 rankings points for his victory over left-handed Lemon.
This Saturday Dawson will have the chance to avenge one of his defeats when he travels to St Austell, Cornwall, with the Herefordshire junior squad. It is Hereford-shire's penultimate divisional match of the campaign and a victory would keep the county in contention for the championship trophy.
