WHIST DRIVE -- An enjoyable Christmas whist drive took place at the New Strand, Eardisley on Monday, December 17. MC for the evening was Mr V Goode, who presented prizes to Mrs G Lloyd, Mrs M Fenton, Mrs C Clayton, Mrs M Goode, Mrs K Jenkins and Mrs M Phillips. After wishing the players a happy Christmas, the MC announced that the next whist drive will be on Monday, January 28 at 7.45pm.

METHODIST CHURCH -- The preachers for the 11am Sunday Services in January will be: Mr J Barry (13), Mr F Hooley (27).

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION -- Mr D Terry, the poppy co-ordinator wishes to thank everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal. The grand total of £2,288.45 was raised.

FREIGHTER -- The parish freighter will be available for unwanted household items on Saturday January 26, from 11am - 1pm, in Sharples Yard by kind permission of Miss J Sharples.

MOTHERS UNION -- The next meeting will be held at Castleton bungalow, when the theme will be 'Desert Island Discs'. Members are requested to bring their favourite records or tapes.

SHOE BOX APPEAL -- Together with boxes from Brilley School, a total of 105 boxes were received at the Advent Sunday Appeal Service.

POST OFFICE -- With the retirement of Heather Royle, from the post office in Church Road, Ewan Cardwell has been appointed as the new sub postmaster. The new office will be located in the New Strand, Eardisley from 9am on Thursday, January 10. The office will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am-1pm and 2pm-5.30pm. Half days will be on Tuesday 9am-1pm and Saturday 9am-12.30pm. It will be closed on Sunday. Enquiries regarding the post office at the New Strand can be made by telephoning 01544 327200.

SCHOOL -- The Christmas coffee morning organised by the friends of Eardisley School, together with the sale of Christmas cards designed by the children raised over £700. The Carol Service and the production of the well-loved 'Baboushka', together with Christmas parties brought the school term to a happy and successful end. The Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sale on December 13 was organised by the older pupils of the school. Carols were sung for the residents of the Campbell Manor Nursing Home.
