WHIST DRIVE -- Mr J Hope, church warden, was the MC at the annual church Christmas whist drive, held in Almeley village hall on Tuesday, December 18.

VILLAGE HALL -- Almeley Village Hall Committee has arranged a Sunday luncheon to be held in the hall on Sunday, January 27. The cost for adults is £6 with a reduction for children. The annual meeting will take place on Monday, January 28. Everybody is welcome to attend this important meeting. The fortnightly series of whist drives recommenced on January 8, with the next being held on Tuesday, January 22 at 7.45pm.

CHURCH -- The latest figure for the Almeley kitchen and loo appeal, published in December was £2,985. Festival arrangements are continuing for the event to be staged from June 26 - 30.

SCHOOL -- When the spring term commenced, the numbers on roll at Almeley Primary School had reached 40. The School Fayre raised £1,450 for school funds. Christmas dinner, produced by Trish Evans and her team, was served to around 70 people. At the Christmas party everyone received gifts from Santa Claus. A Christmas cracker concert was performed for the entertainment of the residents of Kingswood Hall. Heidi Taylor won a colouring competition organised by the Birmingham Repertory Company. The prize was for tickets to see 'Wind in the Willows'. Katie-Jayne Coates designed a Christmas advert for a newspaper Young Designer competition and her success was rewarded with a wall map from the map centre. Almeley pupils' success resulted in a cheque for £200 for the school. The school has organised a 200 club, the membership for which costs £10.
