THIS smart piece of equipment is called a diathermy machine and has been given to Hereford hospitals by Free Masons in Herefordshire.
In some surgery it can be used to seal veins and arteries during cutting with a laser system, reducing stress and improving healing.
The machine, costing around £8,000 is a gift from the Masons as part of Hereford Hospitals Trust New Medical Equipment Appeal.
