THE first woman to be appointed Director General of MI5, Dame Stella Rimington will be the guest speaker at an evening with Herefordshire Federation of Women's Institutes at the Shirehall on March 22.
Not only was she the first woman to take the post, but she was also the first person to be named publicly while in office.
After graduating from Edinburgh University she worked in Worcester County Records Office.
In 1969, she joined the Security Service in the UK after working part-time in New Delhi while her husband had a posting to the British High Commission.
Copies of her book 'Open Secret' will be on sale. Everyone is welcome. Tickets are available from 01544 327333 or 01544 327237 or on the door.
