ANGRY swimmers are demanding Herefordshire Council makes public all documents relating to the closure of the Sydonia pool in Leominster.
Kingfisher Swimming Club members, and other regular users, at a protest meeting on Tuesday alleged health and safety issues were being used as a "smokescreen."
The club is challenging the decision and is castigating the council "for allowing the pool and other buildings such as Leominster Youth Club to fall into a state of disrepair."
Club spokesman Ian McEwan said: "We intend to pursue the council for their dereliction of duty."
He said the 150-member club, founded in 1948, would now struggle for its survival. It is asking the council to arrange its four hours a week of pool time elsewhere and pay for transport and mailings to members
Despite the setback the Kingfishers ARE to compete in a major gala at Cheltenham on Saturday. The coach for competitors and supporters leaves the leisure centre car park at 4.30pm.
