IN-FORM Leominster maintained their mini-revival with a surprise 1-0 win over a depleted Pegasus in the first round of the HFL Journal Cup.

Paul Powell snapped up the winner in the dying seconds of normal time to set up a trip to Weston in the quarter-finals of the competition.

It was a well-deserved victory for the home club who produced a competent all-round display and limited Pegasus to one goal-scoring chance which Ben Williams slotted wide of an upright.

Leominster could have gone into an early lead when Powell saw a shot brilliantly saved by the Pegasus goalkeeper and then Matt Pugh struck the crossbar following good work by Witek Zarzycki.

Despite a blustery wind, Leominster continued to control proceedings after the interval and both Richard Philpotts and Steve Strangwood went close to opening the scoring before an overhead kick from Matt Pugh shaved a post.

And with the game destined for extra time, Powell collected an inch-perfect ball from Jamie Allen and crashed home a shot from 16 yards.

Weston cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory over visiting Ewyas Harold who produced their worst display of the campaign.

The home team opened their account when Ian Hazelwood intercepted a misplaced back pass from Harold defender Ben Williams and tucked the ball into the net.

Striker Paul Burnham doubled Weston's advantage with a close range tap-in and Burnham put the result beyond doubt midway through the second period when he pounced at the far post to slot home an incisive cross from Chris Davies.

Adam Jones reduced the deficit for Harold in the closing minutes with a long-range wind-assisted free kick, but it was too late to worry the home side.

Civil Service booked a quarter-final trip to last year's runners-up Westfields after beating visiting Sutton 2-0.

Sutton enjoyed the better of the opening 20 minutes, although they did not look like scoring until a visiting player headed a fine cross onto a post.

The Servants eventually started to improve in the second half and Luke Gosling almost put the home team in front when he robbed a Sutton defender and unleashed a shot which cannoned against a post.

Service gradually began to take control of the midfield and they were rewarded when Neil Bloomfield opened the scoring on the hour.

Service scored the clincher in the final minute after Steve Gosling breached Sutton's offside trap and beat the visiting goalkeeper with a powerful strike.

Holders Woofferton came from a goal behind to beat an under-strength Hinton 4-1 in an entertaining encounter.

Hinton, who fielded only 10 players, took an early lead when forward John Stoner raced clear of the Woofferton defence before slotting the ball home.

However, visiting Hinton were reduced to nine men within minutes of their opener after Stoner was forced to leave the pitch through injury.

Woofferton took advantage of the subsequent gaps. They equalised before half time and then secured victory with three second-half goals.

Meanwhile, Westfields extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 3-0 home win over Fownhope in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division.

Westfields secured victory with a goal from John Williams, a 35-yard thunderbolt from player--manager Owain Meal and a neat finish by Tim Powell.

Wellington's home match against Ross United Services was postponed because their West Midlands League outfit were at home.
