Headington Amateurs 3 Ross Town 3

ROSS fought back from 3-1 down to salvage an important point in Division 1 West of the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League.

The Herefordshire club were indebted to two goals from leading-scorer Billy Davis who has taken his tally to 21 goals for the season.

Ross were without striker Andy Shepherd and wingback Luke Tovey through injury and defender Matt Phillips due to illness.

Their woes were increased when they found themselves trailing 2-0 after only nine minutes.

Former Oxford United striker Steve Jenkins buried a 20-yard free kick and then Paul Gibbard was allowed to run through unchallenged to beat Ross goalkeeper Craig Edwards.

To their credit, Ross responded and cut the deficit when makeshift striker Kevin Hardcastle scored from close range on 11 minutes.

Within a minute of the restart, however, the Herefordshire club's hopes were dealt a severe blow, courtesy of a defensive lapse which allowed Neil Drewitt to put the side 3-1 ahead.

Town piled forward and eventually reduced arrears on 58 minutes when Davis raced clear of the home defence and lobbed the home goalkeeper.

Ross rescued a point four minutes later after Mark Johnson flicked on a cross and Davis netted with a close-range header.
