ANDREW Fieldhouse reached a notable landmark when he won his 50th gold medal in winning the 100m butterfly event at the Gloucester County Championships at the Kingswood Pool, Bristol.

The versatile Hampton Bishop youngster, who is accomplished in all strokes over distances up to 1500m, was representing Tewkesbury Swimming Club in the championships, which incorporate clubs from Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Avon.

He first swam in the championships eight years ago as a nine-year-old, representing Hereford, and went on to swim for Gloucester City before eventually moving to Tewkesbury, where he is coached by British national coach Lee Mallinson.

A former pupil at Aylestone School, 17-year-old Fieldhouse is now at Hereford Sixth Form College. He has been offered a conditional place to read Law at Oriel College, Oxford, starting in October. If successful he will continue with his swimming with the aim of gaining a blue.
