LADIES LUNCHEON CLUB -- An excellent lunch was enjoyed at The Lion, Woonton by 27 members at the March meeting. Our speaker was our own Jean Richards, her subject Nicaragua. She came to make a three week trip to Bluefields, after Frances Baskerville spoke to us last year about the work of the Hereford-based Trust, Peace and Hope. Members had collected sacks of clothes and toiletries for her to take out. There were 14 in her team, and after a stop at Managua for one night finally arrived at Bluefields, staying at The Mission House in dormitories, with the cockroaches, and washing up in cold water, having first been dipped in bleach, was quite an eye opener. Toilet arrangements were unmentionable. They were there to assist in the building of a Vacational Centre for training after school. The work was hard and it was very hot, 85-90 degrees. Jean's luggage was delayed and she had to wear some of the clothes we had sent out! One of the first things she saw was a WI calendar of Hereford hanging up. While visiting a neighbouring Mission, which took five hours, she visited a volcano and saw a notice which said 'When rocks fly creep beneath your car'. Next meeting April 9, The Stagg, Titley.
