A new production of Alfred Uhry's heart-warming and beautifully written drama, 'Driving Miss Daisy', comes to Theatr Brycheiniog for two nights next week.
Set in Atlanta, Georgia in 1948, Daisy Werthan is a rich middle-class lady of 72. Widowed, she spends her time doing the usual things - bridge, shopping and driving...into lampposts! Enter Hoke, a retired black worker from the Werthan family factory. It is his job to drive Miss Daisy wherever she wants to go.
Daisy and Hoke are a little bit old to be starting a journey together. Where will they end up? Spanning 25 years and evoking memories of the Deep South in the 50s and 60s, 'Driving Miss Daisy' is a moving and extraordinary account of friendship, self-discovery and love.
Adapted for the screen by Alfred Uhry in 1989, Driving Miss Daisy won Oscars for Best Film, Best Actress (Jessica Tandy) and Best Screenplay.
Driving Miss Daisy will be at Theatr Brycheiniog on April 3 and 4. For tickets contact the box office on 01874 611622. The same production will then show at The Courtyard, Hereford on April 15-17. For tickets contact 01432 359252.
