Ledbury entertained Ludlow in the semi- final of the North Midlands Shield on Sunday and with both teams in equivalent level leagues an eventful clash was on the cards.

LEDBURY 34pts, LUDLOW 17pts

Ledbury captain Mark Bell finally broke his losing streak and won the toss.

Ledbury received kick off and started the way they meant to go on driving forward with vigour. Some quick ball saw Dave Pickering blast through the Ludlow midfield and sprint 50 yards to the try line.

The game was fast and furious with both sides fairly equal but then Ledbury threw in 10m out from the Ludlow line and a planned move saw Nick Bevan come round the front of the line and sprint up the touchline to score a well worked try.

Some slack handling from the home side then saw Ludlow pick up loose ball and score in the corner to put them back in the game.

Ledbury continued to put Ludlow under pressure and some good work from midfield saw Rob Collins kick ahead and in the foot race showed his pace to outstrip the cover to score.

The second half saw some good rugby from both sides, Ledbury were penalised for offside several times and this cost them a try in the corner by Ludlow. Fired up by this Ledbury played fast aggressive rugby and pushed deep into Ludlow's half before Pete Elkington side-stepped and shimmied his way to the line to score.

Ollie Kaye then scored in the corner after good driving play by the forwards, who were by now showing their fitness and determination.

Replacements came on, John Wilesmith into the second row replacing injured Cameron Doig, Rich Hall on for Elkington and Will Delamore on the wing, who set up Dave Pickering's second try.

With a neat bit of footwork, Delamore kicked forward for Pickering to scoop up the ball and use his chunky right hand to fend off a few tacklers before racing 30m to the try line for the final score.

Ledbury now take their place and wait to find out if it will be Worcester Wanderers or Old Saltleans who they meet in the final.
