JENNY Cooke and Roy Eckley carried off the David Hemming Plate awarded to the overall winners of the Hereford-shire GC Winter Mixed Series, with Marion and Tom McGoran taking the runners-up prize.

Ann and David Evans were the top scorers in the final event of the series with 46 stableford points.

Andy Cosgrove and Mike Harris carried off the Winter League Trophy when they claimed 4 points from four wins and a half in the play-off involving the winners of the six sections. Dave Jones and Martin Pritchard took runners-up spot with six points.

n Brockington members turned out in force to welcome the new captains, Stephen Wheatstone and Jean Griffin, at the traditional drive-in ceremony.

Janet Parker carded 40 stableford points to win the drive-in competition, with her sister Mary taking second spot on 28 and Jean Harrington third with 23. Mick Jones won the men's competition with 33 points, a point clear of Mick Avery, who beat Peter Robinson on a card countback.

n Paddy Morris and Dan Jarman claimed the Kington Cup when they beat Adrian Taylor and John Freeman three and two to win Burghill Valley Winter League Pairs.

All square after 10 holes, Morris and Jarman won the next three holes and eventually ran out comfortable winners.

Rose Cole and Sam Salmon carded 46 stableford points to win the March mixed competition. Helen and Bernie Green were second with 45, two points clear of third-placed Carla Doyle and Danny Daniels.

European Tour professional David Park missed the cut in the Madeira Island Open when he carded a six-over-par 36-hole total of 150 (74, 76). After a week off, he returns to European Tour action in the Portuguese Open at Vale de Lobo.

n Bill Button completed a double at Kington when he added the Winter Stableford Accumulator to the summer title he already holds. When the last event of the series was rained off, the best six scores from nine events counted for the trophy.

Kington's 'England' golfers were given a much harder time than their rugby counterparts at Twickenham when they prevailed by a single point in the annual Anglo-Welsh challenge match. They totalled 316 points from their eight pairs with 'Wales' aggregating 315 from their pairings.

In fact, Wales won the match count 5-3, but the agreed conditions of play was for an aggregate of the eight stableford scores and England's total was boosted by a superb 46 points from overall winners Nigel Scott and Mike Gittoes.
