Kington'S Mike Cronin has been appointed as the new chairman of Herefordshire Cricket Board.

The Herefordshire born and bred off-spinner has taken over the role from Nick Nenadich who stood down at the last annual general meeting,

Speaking on his new role, the retired sales director said: "I hope to work closely with Herefordshire cricket development officer Chris Dirkin and develop cricket at grass roots level in schools and clubs throughout Hereford-shire.

"I am trying to go into the job without too many preconceptions but it's my intent to act as an unpaid executive, having both hands-on and strategic input."

Sixty-year-old Cronin played a leading role in helping Kington capture the Rothmans Village Champion-ship with a dramatic last-ball victory over Frocester at Lord's in 1993.

The all-rounder has also played Minor Counties cricket for Shropshire, where he lived for about 15 years.

He returned to Kington seven months ago and hopes to play for Kington this summer.

Cronin is also a former Hereford United midfielder and played under the management of Ray Daniel.
