BROMYARD and District Local History Society is to receive £92,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop its Sherford Street Exhibition Centre.

Since acquiring the former grocer's warehouse in 1999, the society has applied for funding to create environmentally controlled conditions for an ever growing archive of local history papers, photographs, maps and documents, the oldest of which date back to the 16th Century.

Society chairman Dick Davies said: "The society is delighted. The scale of this is unexpected and we are very pleased indeed.

"These papers give the community its sense of identity about where they came from which is very important indeed."
