A DELEGATION of six Latvian newspaper editors have visited Herefordshire on a European Union-sponsored fact finding mission.
Latvia is considering joining the EU so the group was brought to the county to see how our farmers and businesses are operating in the common market.
The two day whistle-stop tour included visits to September Organic Farm in Titley, Dunkertons Cider Mill in Pembridge, organic vegetable and fruit producers, The Hop Pocket Craft Centre at Bishop's Frome and The Hereford Times.
Editor of 'Auskelis', Dina Klavina said: "We have enjoyed meeting producers in Hereford. Just like in Latvia some of them are still not convinced the EU is the right idea. In Latvia our farmers are very worried about going out of business if they let cheap imports into the country."
She filed copy over the telephone to her newspaper to keep readers updated on her exploits in Herefordshire. The group also visited Nieuport House in Almeley, home to Latvian refugees during World War Two.
