QUALITY not quantity was the verdict of Blind Date audition judges when they visited Hereford to scout out talent for the hit TV-show, writes HEATH ASTON.

LWT programme producers had been bowled over the day before by 300 hopefuls in Birmingham, but - said associate producer Cheryl Snelling - as many Herefordians will probably make it through to second round auditions as Brummies.

Around 50 guys and girls filtered into the Green Dragon Hotel over the day to prove they have the pizzazz to join Cilla Black at London Television Centre later in the year.

"We come to Hereford because you tend to find people who are really different, really confident and really individual. It sounds cheesy these days but we are looking for the x-factor, that little bit of something that makes so many people keep watching our show," said Cheryl.

"A few lads here can certainly speak for themselves and we've found some girls who are very confident and looking for love."

The 50 Hereford hopefuls join a pool of 15,000 people auditioned. Just 10 per cent of that number will be called back for the second round.
