Wellington 1 Gornal Athletic 1

WELLINGTON had enough chances to win but conceded a point to their battling West Midlands League Premier Division visitors who are struggling to climb out of the relegation zone.

After Peter Wallace and Tom Herbert had missed early chances, the visitors took the lead with a fortuitous goal.

Liam Craig won the ball with a strong challenge in the box but it ricocheted off a Gornal striker and swerved past goalkeeper Jim Panniers.

Substitutes Andy Morrison and Michael Prince injected more purpose into Wellington's play and they pressed forward in search of an equaliser.

Prince and Matt Joinson cleverly exchanged passes before Joinson chipped a neat ball over the defence for Wallace to volley home.

Despite constant pressure for the last 10 minutes, the determined visitors kept Wellington out.

Substitute Danny Stevens went closest to gaining a winner for Wellington when he rounded the defence but fired into the side netting from an acute angle.
