A HEREFORDSHIRE woman has spent her 100th birthday on the move - literally!

Muriel Watkins was the last remaining resident at the Wilton Hall Nursing Home near Ross-on-Wye when it closed.

Now she has become one of Ledbury Nursing Home's first and is busy settling into her new home and arranging some of the 60 cards for her special day.

Born near Cardiff, she moved from Wacton near Bromyard to Ashperton in 1912.

In 1928 she married her husband, Leslie, son of the landlord of the Box Bush Inn. Widowed in 1939, Mrs Watkins ran one of the two village bakers, retiring in 1952. She is thought to be the first centenarian of Ashperton.
