THERE is relief at last for a Welsh borders town as its MP wins a long fought battle for a bypass.
Roger Williams and BLOT, Bypass Long Overdue for Talgarth, are rejoicing at news that the town's relief road has finally been given the go-ahead.
The National Assembly for Wales has announced that work will start before 2005 - more than 20 years after Mr Williams first started to campaign for the road as Talgarth's county councillor.
He was also pleased to hear that bends and bridge problems at Cwmbach and Newbridge have been moved up the Assembly's 'to do' list and the possibility of relief roads for Builth Wells and Rhayader are continuing to be examined.
Mr Williams has paid tribute to Talgarth Town Council, Cllr Ivy Lewis, his predecessor Lord Richard Livsey and AM Kirsty Williams, who have all lobbied for the Talgarth bypass.
