GUEST SPEAKER -- At the March meeting of Old Radnor Women's Institute was Julian Reeves, health development co-ordinator for Herefordshire. With the help of graphs, he made members more aware of the ways in which they treat their bodies, through for instance exercise, good and bad types of food, alcohol and smoking. Everyone present gained some knowledge from his talk, which provoked a lively discussion, and he was thanked on their behalf by Gwyneth Hughes. The meeting had opened with the presentation of a cheque for £100 by president Cecily Bayliss to Rachael Harvey, who received it on behalf of the air ambulance, a donation made possible by the fund-raising whist drive organised recently by institute members. There was also a discussion of the plans for the institute's special day on Saturday, April 27, when it holds a sale of work at 3 pm and a whist drive at 7.45 pm both at Walton Hill, and the WI county open day on May 4. Members were told that invitations had been received from both Gladestry and Kinnerton WIs.
WINNERS -- Of a limerick competition were: Ros Tarrant (first), Jean Atkin(second), Beryl Bradbury (third), Cecily Bayliss (fourth), and hostesses were Ann Davies, Joy Jones and Gwyneth Hughes.
