PARISH COUNCIL -- The March meeting of Ewyas Harold Group Parish Council was held in the Memorial Hall, with Councillor Peter Jinman in the chair. It was agreed that Councillor Thane Meldrum should investigate the matter of the re-cycling of waste and report to the next meeting. Details of the next visit of the parish freighter to the Memorial Hall would be displayed on the parish notice board and in the Good News magazine. Councillor Ron Weaver said that a grant had been applied for by the Golden Jubilee Celebration committee and plans for the day's events were well under way. Councillor Jean Addis said that she would meet Derek Howell, Herefordshire Council lighting engineer to discuss the proposed lighting scheme at Gilbertswood. Following a survey of the views of residents of Old Shoppe Lands about their lighting scheme, Councillor Margaret Tovey would also attend this meeting. Councillor Elizabeth Overstall gave a report on the progress of the village design statement, a questionnaire would shortly be circulated around the village. A sub-committee was being formed so that following completion of the design statement a village plan could be produced. This would be wider ranging and could involve all the group parishes. Grant aid would be sought. Enhancement kits for replacing the lighting column at Bridge Farm roundabout would now be ordered. Improving the roundabout itself would involve replacing or repairing the kerb stones surrounding it. Councillor Graham Sprackling said that a local contractor had agreed to maintain the flower beds in the recreation ground. New bark for the children's play area would be ordered when conditions were favourable for spreading it. Application forms for the Village of the Year competition 2003, have been received. As last year's winner in the county, under new rules, Ewyas Harold is not eligible to enter for the title. We can still, however compete for the lesser awards within the county. The clerk's financial report was approved. Documents relating to the parish council code of conduct were given to councillors, to be completed and returned at the next meeting. The next parish council meeting will be on Tuesday, April 2.
