A SOPHISTICATED scam has been used at an automatic cash machine in Hereford to gain access to someone's account and steal money.
Police are warning people not to reveal their PIN number to anyone after a large amount of money was stolen from someone who had their card jammed in the ATM machine.
The victim was approached by an unknown female when the card jammed, and told to hold down the bottom two keys of the pad and key in their PIN number.
Police believe the PIN was noted during the operation and used later to steal funds from the account.
PC Alistair Mulcaster said: "If the cash machine you are using jams and you are approached by someone offering advice, do not key in your number.
"Call the police immediately on 01432 276422 and report the incident and if possible make a note of anyone who approaches you to offer advice."
