HIGH-achieving GCSE students at The Minster College, Leominster, earned their own signature tune - 'Simply the Best'.

Teacher Margaret Palmer played the music at a college function in honour of last year's Year 11 students.

Mrs Palmer, the head of year, and college principal Valerie Thomasson heaped more praise on the high flyers at an examination certificate presentation evening.

'Tremendous advances' had been made at the Minster College over the last five years and the last year 11 were 'very special young people', said Mrs Thomasson.

All students gained at least one exam pass and 27 per cent gained 112 A star and A grades between them, she said.

Mrs Palmer said examination league tables did not show the faces behind the results and the obstacles some students had to overcome.

She highlighted another aspect of the students' time at the college - their 'tremendous' fundraising work for local and national charities.
