PLANS for a £55 million Asda store in Hereford will be on view at the weekend.

Joint developers Eign Enterprises and Asda say it is a major public consultation and they hope the scheme will be considered by Herefordshire planners within the next two months.

An architect's model, plus maps and pictures of the prestigious scheme will be on view at an exhibition at Hunderton Junior School tomorrow, February 7, and Saturday.

It will be opened by Hereford MP Paul Keetch at 9-45am and a team of experts will be there to explain the plans and answer questions.

Eign Enterprises and Asda have modified their previous application for the former Percy Edmonds caravan site near the Greyfriars Bridge, which has been derelict for many years.

They no longer wish to build 50 plus houses on part of the site, the only residential buildings to be 12 flats and town houses near the entrance next to the former Greyhound Dog pub.

The store has been moved further back on the site and the existing allotments and tramway will remain. The bowling club is to be relocated.

The new Asda store of 40,000 sq. ft will employ 450 full and part time staff.

Included in the development will be a community building with a health facility on the first floor and a nursery and creche.

As well as its own flood prevention scheme Asda has promised £2 million towards a local flood plan and to help with redesign the Belmont roundabout.

Spokesman Simon Hoare said the plans were now complete and saw no reason why they could not be dealt with in the next couple of months.
