HEREFORD Cathedral School 1st XV rugby players Jake Coates and Peter Foster both played for Midlands Schools 18-Group against Midlands Clubs 18-Group on Saturday when Coates captained the side to a narrow 15-14 victory.

Both players had good games and Coates has been selected again to play the North at Leicester GS this Sunday as he continues his bid for an England cap at under-18 level. Foster is still in the Midlands squad but has not been selected for this week.

Coates had previously been promoted to the Midlands Under-18 (September) team and scored two tries in a win over London and the South East.

Cathedral 1st XV rounded off a successful season with an astonishing 88-0 home win over Malvern College.

Many of the boys were playing their last 15-a-side fixture for the school and produced speed and flair for a record result to finish the season with 16 wins and six defeats. They also reached the last 32 of the Daily Mail Cup national competition.
