BRICKS for sale, £20 each - County schoolchildren Flora Barrett and Lee Thomas need to sell hundreds to raise funds for a new infant classroom.

The Eardisley Primary School pupils and their classmates together with past pupils, parents, friends of the school and anyone else who can help, need to raise £60,000 to relieve the school's cramped, dark and old-fashioned conditions for younger children.

"We are hoping to start work in the summer if we raise the money. It will be a nice, bright and airy building with one large room fitted out and a nice paved area around the outside together with disabled access. We will also put new toilets into one section of the school," said the chairman of governors, Hugo Schofield.

The new classroom, to hold up to 28 children, will cost £120,000. The school is putting up £30,000, match funded by Herefordshire Local Education Authority.

Fundraising for the rest begins seriously on Valentine's day when friends of the school will be invited to an open evening and buffet supper to view proposals.

Guests will have a chance to become school patrons by buying bricks and will be invited to sign a wall of fame. The evening starts at 7.30pm.
