TALK -- Local artist Harriet Hill was the guest speaker at Gladestry Women's Institute's January meeting, and her subject was felt-making, a craft which she demonstrated in front of members. She showed the whole process from the raw material of the carded wool through to the finished creation, on this occasion a unique and beautiful bag.

EVENTS -- St David's Day is on the horizon, and Gladestry will once more be holding a celebratory Welsh Night as near to the date as possible, this year on Friday, February 28, at 7.30pm in the village hall. Entertainment and refreshments with a Welsh flavour will be offered, and there will be a wide range of open competitions for adults and children, the theme being 'along the Arrow', details from 01544 370602 or 01544 370363. There were 16 entries for a favourite hat competition, which was won by Mrs P Holden (not a felt one!), hostesses were Mrs K Ingram, Mrs L Speyer and Mrs U White, and the draw prize was won by Mrs C Kendrick.
