Hereford chalked up their fifth victory of the season in the Gerrard West of England and South Wales League with a well-deserved 3-2 home win over lowly Robinsons 2nd in Premier Division 3.

The city outfit carved out some good opportunities in the early stages, with Ian McDowell having a shot saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Ian Gwilliam should have won a penalty soon afterwards when his goal-bound shot was stopped by a visiting defender's foot but the umpire overlooked the infringement.

Hereford kept up the tempo and opened the scoring when a 30-yard pass from Mark Allen found Richard Edwards and he made no mistake from close range.

The home side only held the lead for a couple of minutes because slack defending allowed the visitors to draw level.

Gwilliam, again, should have won a penalty in the early stages of the second period from another infringement but the umpire awarded a short corner.

Hereford soon scored their second goal when Gwilliam dived to meet a cross from Chris Weale to put the ball into the net.

Weale bagged Hereford's third goal midway through the half after latching on to a ball from the outstanding Giles Stokes, before the visitors scored a late second goal.

Promotion-chasing Leominster slipped to third place in North Division 2 after suffering a 1-0 defeat at UW Cardiff in a top-of-the-table clash.

The students have replaced Leominster in second position and the Herefordshire club are now five points adrift of table-topping Yatton.

Leominster 2nd dropped to second bottom in North-East Division 2 after crashing to a 5-1 home reverse at high-flying City of Bath 3rd in a hard-fought battle.

The scoreline flattered the home side because Leominster had plenty of possession and numerous chances to score, mostly through Simon Maxwell and David Mumford.

Bath led 2-0 at the interval and, although Leomin-ster dominated for a 20-minute period and replied through Tom Morris, the home side bagged three goals in quick succession.

Hereford 2nd also missed the opportunity to climb away from the lower reaches of the table after sliding to a narrow 2-1 away defeat to Firebrands 4th.

Hereford 3rd recorded an impressive 1-0 home win over promotion-chasing Old Bristolians 3rd in a lively and open North-East West District 2 encounter.

Nigel Mundy and Tony Cockbain snuffed out the visitors' attack and midway through the first half Hereford opened the scoring when Richard Wenham's strike was chipped into the net by Tim Miller.

The visitors enjoyed more possession after the break but Hereford created some good opportunities of their own and should have made the game safe.

Late in the game, man-of-the-match Mike Bates made a last-ditch goalline clearance to ensure Bristol went home empty handed.

Relegation-threatened Ross remain at the foot of the table with just one league success from 12 matches after a 4-0 away defeat to second-placed Cheltenham 4th.

Clevedon 2nd maintained their challenge for the North-East West District 4 crown after registering a 7-2 home win over third-placed Here-ford 4th.

Hereford shocked the title favourites when the outstanding Alistair Owen opened the scoring from a penalty corner.

The table-toppers hit back to equalise a couple of minutes later and scored two further goals to open up a 3-1 advantage before the interval.

Although Hereford captain Chris Moody notched a second goal after a fine through-ball from Charles Murray and Ashley Moore starred in the visitors' defence, Bristol regained the advantage and ran out worthy winners.
