Leominster increased their advantage at the top of the West Clubs Women's League Severn Division 2 to four points after a 3-2 home win over Bretforton 2nd in a lively top-of-the-table tussle.

The leaders seized the advantage from the opening whistle and Laura Stubbs swept the home side into an early 1-0 lead.

Leominster continued to peg back their nearest rivals and, with Bretforton visibly shaken, Abi Thomas piled on the agony with the table-toppers' second goal.

Bretforton gave the Leominster defence some testing moments but the home side responded in perfect fashion, Stubbs snapping up her second goal, putting the high-fliers into a commanding 3-0 lead.

The visitors pulled a goal back before the interval and, although, they notched a second within minutes of the restart, Leominster ran out deserved winners and should have added to their tally.

Hereford 2nd climbed to third spot after a comprehensive 4-0 away triumph over bottom-of-the-table East Glos 2nd.

A brace from Lisa Ferneyhough and goals from Jess Lambert and Carol Dover led Hereford to victory, while there were important contributions from Dwyn Jones and Angela Thomas.

An injury-hit Colwall made the long trip to Bournemouth in Premier Division 1 and returned with a deserved point from an exciting 3-3 draw.

The depleted Colwall side made a solid start in an action-packed first half and took the lead when Emma Twigg found the net after a goalmouth scramble.

The home side responded with a quick break and Vicky Riley bravely blocked a goal-bound shot before Twigg snapped up her second goal to put the Herefordshire outfit 2-0 ahead.

Bournemouth replied strongly and reduced the deficit with a penalty stroke but Colwall restored their two-goal cushion when a foul challenge denied Nina Emery and Cathy Clements dispatched the resulting penalty with ease.

Again, the home side hit back strongly and rounded off the scoring in the opening half with their second from a goalmouth scramble.

The Herefordshire side pushed forward at every opportunity after the half-time interval but they were thwarted by some desperate defending from the home team. Bournemouth mounted a rare raid in the second period and salvaged a draw from a short corner.

Hereford's disappointing season in the North Division continued when they crashed to a 4-1 away defeat against Yate and South Glos 2nd.

The versatile Amy Crowley had a good game for the strugglers, while Pippa Cardy scored Hereford's only goal late in the game.

Promotion-chasing Ross dropped from second to fourth in Severn Division 1 after suffering a 3-0 away defeat to rivals Gloucester 2nd in a top-of-the-table clash, while second-bottom Colwall 2nd continue to flirt with relegation after losing 3-0 at Cheltenham 4th.

An outstanding individual goal from Sherrie Hughes and a fine strike from skipper Ruth Alexander gave Kington an impressive 2-1 home win over top-of-the-table Presteigne in the Mid Wales League.

Meanwhile, Hereford-shire Under-17 won one, lost four and drew three of their eight matches in the West of England Tournament.

They beat the Channel Islands 2-0, drew with Dorset, Cornwall and Avon, but lost to Somerset, Devon, Wilt-shire and Gloucester-shire.

Herefordshire's Sarah Nightingale has been selected in the 24-strong England Under-16 Train-ing Squad from which the England side will be selected for April's home nations tournament. Another Herefordshire player, Olivia Linton, has been picked for England Under-17 trials.
