THE children of Stretton Sugwas look forward to going to school, according to Ofsted inspectors in a glowing report.

Staff and youngsters at the village's primary school are celebrating the findings of the report, which found the school was 'very effective' and gives 'very good value for money'.

The quality of teaching was said to be 'very good' and the school is well led and managed by the head teacher, who provides 'strong, inspirational leadership'.

Head Erica Morgan said: "We're delighted with the report which is a credit to the hard work of all the staff.

Above average

"The inspectors concluded that standards in English, maths, science, music and physical education are all above average.

"This is a very pleasing reflection on the high standards of teaching we set ourselves and the high standards we expect from our children."

The report shows that everyone connected with the school works together very effectively and pupils with special educational needs are provided with very good support.

Chair of Governors, Shirley Williams praised staff and pupils for their commitment in making the school so successful.

"What's even more remarkable is that we've received such a fine report after having gone through a major building exercise just over two years ago.

"It was a difficult time, but now the school benefits from a new hall, library and ICT suite, thanks to the work carried out.

"The pupils can now learn in modern well-equipped classrooms which have undoubtedly contributed to the high standard of teaching our pupils receive," said Mrs Williams.

Inspectors stated that one area for improvement within the school is ICT - Information Communication and Technology.

They said that ICT, along with the recording of information should be used more to support work across the curriculum.
