Ross Town 1 Clanfield 4

RELEGATION-threatened Ross crashed to a disappointing home defeat against fellow strugglers in Division 1 West of the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League.

Although the scoreline flattered the visitors, Ross only had themselves to blame after conceding two sloppy goals through poor defending.

Town started very brightly and pushed the visitors back, with David Skipp forcing a smart save from the visiting goalkeeper and he then fired narrowly wide after cutting in from the right.

Despite a good start, struggling Ross fell behind to the visitors' first attack when Aidan Winney turned his marker and beat home goalkeeper Byron Hartley with a left-foot finish.

Clanfield extended their advantage on 28 minutes when Winney again turned his marker and calmly slotted the ball past the helpless Hartley.

Despite trailing 2-0, Ross responded strongly, with Gavin Capewell's 25-yard curling shot striking the upright with the visiting goalkeeper well beaten.

Ross deservedly reduced arrears on the hour when Kevin Horsfall's quickly taken throw-in released Jorge Thomas who burst past four defenders and then coolly beat the goalkeeper.

Buoyed by the goal, Town pushed players forward in search of an equaliser but the visitors sealed the win with two goals against the run of play.
