LEDBURY Arts Society threw open its doors to the public on Tuesday when it hosted a presentation by celebrated professional artist David Birtwhistle.

The Worcester-based watercolour specialist entertained and informed a gathering of the public, society members and artists from other groups when he called in to the Burgage Hall.

Mike Purkiss, co-ordinator of the society, said the event went very well.

"During the course of his presentation he stressed the importance of good drawing and composition, and how paramount this is in achieving a good painting," he said.

He added that the club, which meets once a month in the Leadon Bank Day Centre, was keen to recruit new members.

Those thinking about joining should not be put off by thinking they are not good enough.

"Do not question your ability," said Mr Purkiss, "This is not important when it comes to having a thoroughly enjoyable hobby and sharing it with like-minded people."
