Bromyard entertained the runaway North Midlands One league leaders Solihull who left Bromyard with a victory but they knew they had been in a battle.

BROMYARD 8pts, SOLIHULL 36pts

The first half was an even contest as Bromyard forced Solihull back into their own 22 for long periods, this ruffled the visitors and their flanker was sin binned for a blatant punch on flanker Gareth Walsh who was forced to leave the field for stitches. However his replacement club stalwart Dave Mann was later named man of the match for his all round effort.

Solihull scored two quick tries on 22 and 26 minutes to give them an advantage and then kicked a penalty but to Bromyard's credit they fought well and Piers Gaunt got them on the board with a well struck penalty. Disaster struck just before half time as Solihull scored again to leave them 22-3 ahead.

Just after the break Solihull scored two more tries both of which were converted to give them a big lead. Bromyard, after a rousing team talk from stand in skipper Simon Lloyd, were the better side for the rest of the match

Veteran Gareth Boxhall was helped of the field after a nasty clash of heads to be replaced by young powerhouse winger Gareth Griffiths who impressed.

The Bromyard front five were to the fore in the scrums against much bigger opponents with Simon Fryar, John Pryce and Lawrence Fenn giving as good as they got. With 12 minutes to go Bromyard were rewarded for their hard work with a fine try from the ever impressive Scott Holloway to leave the final score 36-8, which was no disgrace against a fine side.

Yet again the player of the month title was keenly contested but scrum half Simon Lloyd walked off with the title for January.
