SHOOTERS from Herefordshire were among members of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) who met to discuss the code of good shooting practice with shoot owners in the West Midlands.

They concluded that game shooting was a benefit to the rural economy and wildlife.

A spokesman commented: "It plays a big part in shaping the countryside and creates landscapes with woodland and hedgerows.

"And the return of the grey partridge owes a great deal to recent agri-environment scheme, such as arable field margins."

Shooting was popular with a wide cross section of the community and made use of a range of skills, including forestry, farming, beating and dog handling.

Shooting schools existed to train and improve performance and involve more job creation.

"People are learning about the wider aspects for countryside management and the network of skills that combine to fashion the landscapes that we all enjoy."
