THE Government is to seek views on a draft EU directive for the control of foot and mouth.
The directive updates the measures contained in the current EU directive and takes into account the most recent scientific developments as well as the experience gained in eradicating the disease during the 2001 outbreak.
It reflects many of the recommendations made in the UK inquiry reports and accepted by the Government. It is also consistent with the Government's view that emergency vaccination should be considered as part of the control strategy from the start of any outbreak of foot and mouth.
Views on the directive are being sought by Friday, May 2.
