MADAM, Your article on the closure of day care centres for Alzheimer's patients is a devastating blow to patients and carers alike.
This excellent service has been provided by the Herefordshire Alzheimer's Society for several years, subsidised by Social Services and the Primary Care Trust.
Mr Paul Bates has stated the PCT has a 'responsibility' for looking after people with dementia. However I understand that it is a statutory obligation.
Once again we see the sheer inertia of a system of Government at both national and local levels where the most vulnerable members of our society are always last in the queue for funding.
