NEWLY-formed Friends of Leominster Railway Station have promised 'significant improvements' at the station over the next few months.

Twenty volunteers recently carried out a general tidy-up of the station forecourt, picking up litter, clearing overgrown plant beds and pruning overhanging trees.

Group spokesman Christopher Kingsley said he was delighted at the turnout.

"We received several positive comments from people using the station but this is just the start."

He said the group was carrying on with general tidying at monthly work days. Members were hopeful the railway authorities would soon carry out more major improvements at the station.

Wales & Border Trains and Leominster Town Council had been 'very supportive' in the launch of the group, Mr Kingsley added.

l The next station tidy-up session is on March 16 at 2pm.
