RELEGATION-threatened Hereford rounded off their Gerrard West of England and South Wales League Premier Division 3 campaign with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Whitchurch 2nd.

The city outfit, who lie third from bottom, now have to wait until rival clubs have played their final league matches this weekend to discover whether they done enough to avoid relegation.

Against Whitchurch, Hereford made a slow start before the visitors opened the scoring in the first half from a short-corner.

Hereford fought back into the match and deservedly equalised after the break when man-of-the-match Ian Gwilliam intercepted a back pass and found the net with a well-struck first-time effort.

Both sides then created chances to win the match, with Liam Hayde and midfielder Chris Weale, in his last league appearance, in particularly impressive form for Hereford.

Leominster will almost certainly miss out on a much-desired promotion place in North Division 2 after suffering a narrow 4-3 away defeat in their penultimate match against Yatton, who were confirmed league champions with the victory.

Barring several freak results in the final round of matches, Leominster will finish third at best because they trail second-placed UW Cardiff by three points and have a much inferior goal difference.

Leominster took advantage of a nervous start by Yatton to break the deadlock on five minutes when Josh Watkins collected a pass from Rob Goodman to fire home.

The home side stepped up a gear, drawing level 10 minutes later and they went in front soon afterwards following sloppy defending.

John Briggs hauled Leominster level before half time but Yatton, again, made the most of a defensive mistake to move 3-2 ahead early in the second half.

A penalty-flick from Goodman put Leominster back on level terms and, with a home player sent to the sin-bin for the foul which led to the penalty, the visitors searched hard for a winner, with Matthew Evans solid in defence.

But with just five minutes remaining, the home side made a quick break and scored their winning goal, which all but put paid to Leominster's promotion hopes.

Relegation-threatened Leominster 2nd squandered a two-goal advantage in a 3-2 home defeat against Yatton 2nd and remain in the bottom two of North-East West District 2 with only one fixture remaining.

A double from Mo Morris put Leominster into a commanding position but they could not hold on to their lead and the strugglers must win their final match to stand a chance of avoiding the drop.

Hereford 2nd's trip to Gloucester City 3rd will have to be re-arranged after there was confusion over the start time of their North-East Division 2 encounter.

Hereford 3rd climbed to third place in North-East West Division 2 after an impressive 2-0 away win over North Somerset 2nd in their penultimate league fixture.

Hereford restricted the home side to a few scoring opportunities, while Richard Wenham and Dan Bridges combined well down the right.

An excellent individual goal from Malcolm Rogers put Hereford ahead in the second half and Richard Green drove home the clincher with 10 minutes remaining.
