Hereford Sixth Form College boys' team reached the semi-finals of the Under-18 RAF West of England Tournament at Millfield School in Somerset.

The county's representatives gave a good account of themselves before losing 5-0 to Millfield School, the runners-up in last year's national competition.

The College lost their opening group match 3-0 to the Wiltshire representatives, Canford School, but they fared much better in their second game, drawing 1-1 with Cheltenham College.

Sam Johnson put the Sixth Form College ahead early in the second half but the Gloucestershire representatives drew level in the final minute.

The College booked a place in the last four with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Taunton School in their final group match. Tom Clarke scored an excellent solo goal and the Herefordshire representatives then worked hard in defence with Sam Johnson and Dan MacCarthy making some crucial tackles.

In the opening stages of their semi-final, the College could not cope with Millfield's superior play and conceded four goals in the first six minutes.

They regrouped, however, and conceded only one further goal.
