A HARLEQUIN Mills and Boon novelist in Herefordshire has been short-listed for a new award for her latest romance.
'Marrying the Major', by Joanna Maitland, is a heady mixture of passion and macho military history that has melted judges' hearts at the Romantic Novelists' Association.
Joanna takes inspiration for her love stories from the medieval history of the Welsh Marches where she lives.
"I started writing for my children when they were small, but soon discovered that historical romance would allow me to combine my abiding interest in history with my love of story telling," said Joanna.
She added: "I like to feature well-researched settings and believable locations. The hero of 'Marrying the Major' is scarred and embittered as a result of his experiences in the Napoleonic Wars. Hugo is not at all like the handsome young man Emma has known and fantasised about since childhood."
The tale is up for a new Romantic Novelists' Association Award, to be presented at the Savoy, London, on April 17. Joanna's next book is 'Rake's Reward', a sequel to 'Marrying the Major'.
