A HEREFORDSHIRE construction company and property developing business has taken a swipe at the prospect of a regional assembly in a letter to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.
Collins Engineering spokesman Phil Collins has told Mr Prescott that his company have deep roots in the county and deal with the council on a regular basis.
He wrote: "We are extremely concerned that a regional assembly may be formed to deal with the politics of the West Midlands and we quickly become viewed as a distant backwater and are not given the priority we deserve.
"Please leave well alone and let the local councillors continue to deal with local matters. It is particularly appropriate in view of the time it has taken for the Herefordshire Council to fully reorganise from the 'Hereford and Worcester' debacle.
"I hope this small voice is heard in the large world out there."
